You need to know that you are being guided correctly by your fire equipment service provider and are charged at a reasonable and honest rate.

Be aware of the importance of having your fire equipment serviced by a reputable and honest organization. There are many “fly by nights” who will service your equipment at cheaper rates promising you compliance. These service providers are not certified maintainers of fire equipment. The pennies saved on your annual service could be your most expensive decision ever made. Make sure that your Fire Equipment Service Provider is accredited by the SAQCC. All technicians should have membership cards with valid dates proving their legitimate right and responsibility to service your equipment.

Our workmanship and manufactured products are of the highest standards, ensuring that your equipment works when needed. Our goal is to make the installation and maintenance of your fire equipment an easy task to manage and your comfort that your fire equipment is taken care of. MCK- DINE FIRE CC is fully accredited by the SAQCC and SABS (South African Bureau of Standards) making us a preferred supplier and maintainer.

Safety Policy: Fire Equipment Servicing and Installation Maintenance

Purpose

To ensure the proper operation of fire extinguishers during a fire emergency; to provide a mechanism for rapid identification and replacement of missing, damaged, or undercharged fire extinguishers; and to provide for routine maintenance of fire at a cost.

Policy and General Information

  • A fire extinguisher in a general area (i.e., corridor, classroom, dormitory, etc.) should be inspected upon initial installation and on a monthly/ yearly basis;
  • Maintenance is a thorough examination that is intended to confirm that a fire extinguisher will operate safely and effectively. Maintenance includes a thorough examination and any necessary repair or replacement;
  • Fire extinguisher supplier should confirm, as a minimum, the following: that
    • the extinguisher is located in its designated location;
    • fire extinguisher access and visibility are unobstructed;
    • operating instructions on the extinguisher nameplate are legible and facing forward;
    • seals and tamper indicators are not broken nor missing;
    • the extinguisher is free of corrosion and leakage;
    • extinguisher nozzle is not clogged;
    • and that the pressure gage is in the appropriate position.

If a fire extinguisher reveals a problematic condition, immediate corrective action shall be taken. It is the responsibility of the Building Manager or person appointed to ensure that fire extinguisher’s is serviced as follows:

  • Rechargeable Extinguisher - applicable maintenance procedures;
  • Non-rechargeable Dry Chemical Extinguisher - discharged and removed from service;
  • Fire Extinguisher to be returned to MCK- DINE FIRE CC;
  • Records must be made available upon request to the clients (registers)

Fire Extinguisher

  • Ensurering that fire extinguishers are serviced annually or when extinguisher has been used (cost per recharged);
  • Each and every fire extinguisher will have a tag or label securely attached that indicates the month and year that maintenance and recharging were performed and identifies that MCK- DINE FIRE CC performed the services. Labels shall not be placed on the front of the extinguisher where they may obscure operating instructions;
  • Fire extinguisher’s that is out of service for maintenance or recharge shall be replaced by a spare extinguisher of the same type and at least equal rating;
  • Following the use of a fire extinguisher, the Building Manager/Person in charge of Fire Equipment at the company shall ensure that a replacement extinguisher of the same type and at least equal rating is installed immediately.
